For many the village of Chambolle, which has affixed the name of one of
its two great gowths, epitomizes the sensual, alluring qualities of
pinot noir better than anywhere on earth. In his 1825 Topographie de
tous les vignobles connus, Andre Jullian placed Musigny and the climats
just downslope, Les Amoureuses and Haut-Doix, in his highest class,
noting that they resemble the wines of the Romanes. Light in body,
highly concentrated and with a mesmerizing bouquet, the wines of
Chambolle remain to this day, for many Burgundy lovers, as good as it
gets.
